Qualifications & Experience

Date 18/01/2012

I am the proprietor of “ACCRECON Consultancy” based in Sharnbrook Bedfordshire. I have been an accident investigator for the last 23 years.

Prior to setting up the company I was a serving Police Officer with Bedfordshire Police. I worked within the “Road Policing” division, and since 1988 I have specialised in “Road Traffic Accident Investigation.”

From 2002 until 2009 I worked as part of a full time unit dedicated to Accident Investigation and throughout that time I held the position of Senior Collision Investigator.

I am qualified in Road Accident Investigation to Advanced level, and hold a City & Guilds certificate in the subject.

I have been awarded the Licentiateship of the City & Guilds Institute.

I am a full member of the Institute of Traffic Accident Investigators.

I am an Associate Member of the Society of Engineers (A.M.S.O.E.).

I am an Associate Member of the Institute of Road Transport Engineers (A.M.I.R.T.E.).

I was previously registered with the Council for the Registration of Forensic Practitioners in the specialist discipline of Road Transport (Collision Investigation) and was entitled to use the letters R.F.P. after my name.

I am qualified to examine all classes of motor vehicles and I hold a City & Guilds certificate in vehicle examination, and the Institute of the Motor Industry certificate relating to the examination of large vehicles.

I have experience relating to the identification of stolen vehicles and their components, and have attended the C10 course run by the Metropolitan Police relating to this.
I have received in depth training relating to vehicle tyre examination at the Michelin training centre in Stoke-On-Trent.

I have also attended training courses relating to vehicle electronics, ABS Brakes, ‘SRS’ Air Bags and Seat Belt Pretensioners.

I hold a City & Guilds certificate in “Drivers Hours and Tachograph Chart Reading” and the “Forensic Calibration of Tachograph Recording Equipment.”

I have also received training in relation to the various digital tachograph recording equipment systems.

I have attended specialised training courses in relation to surveying by means of “Total Station Theodolite Electronic Distance Measurement Systems,” “Global Navigation Satellite Surveying Equipment,” and “Photogrammetry.” During my career with Bedfordshire Police I had the responsibility for training other accident investigators in the use of these systems.

From measurements recorded by these and other methods, I am able to produce accurate scale plans for use at court.

During my employment with Bedfordshire Police and whilst stationed within the Road Policing Division I qualified as a Class 1 Advanced Police driver for motor cars. I was trained in the use of VASCAR, and hand held radar and laser speed detection devices.

I hold a full licence for category C+E Large Goods Vehicles, and a full licence to ride motorcycles.

I currently own and frequently ride a motorcycle of large engine capacity.

During the period that I have been involved in Road Accident Investigation, I have continued to expand my knowledge of the subject by attending numerous seminars and conferences covering a wide range of relevant aspects.
I maintain a portfolio of continual professional development, which I submit annually to The Institute of Traffic Accident Investigators for assessment. My last three years submissions are up to date and have been approved.
